Johan & Danni – A Touch of Boho

As a late afternoon treat we bring you Danni and Johan’s laid-back wedding. Danni describes their big day as “festival like”. Sounds good to me! The two tied the knot in January this year at the beautiful Molenvliet Estate in Stellenbosch. Both Johan and Danni are nature lovers.

So for their big day they opted to say their vows in a “secret forest”, and celebrate under the stars afterwards. We’re loving all the handmade touches, Danni’s beautiful dress and of course the bridal party’s gorgeous outfits! The wonderful Wesley Vorster was behind the lens.

Their Story

We met when we were both students. Johan had planned to propose to me when we were snowboarding with my family in France; he bought a temporary ring because my designer friend was in Germany at the time. He carried the ring along the entire trip, but never popped the question. A few days after we were back in SA we were on our way to watch a concert, this is when he surprised me with a picnic on a little secluded hill overlooking the sea. There he proposed and told me the story. When I asked why he never did it in France, he said, “Well, because we are sea people,” which made it truly special. A few months later he surprised me again with a gorgeous engagement ring that looked like a little branch wrapped around my finger, amazing!

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

The outdoor reception under fairylights and stars made an amazing atmosphere, especially with the gypsy jazz music playing in the background, we could not have asked for better weather, we are truly blessed. As a side note, I also loved, loved, loved the pretty surfboard my man gave me as a wedding present!

Did anything unexpected happen at your wedding?

Well, I was going to walk down the aisle on the instrumental version of Eddie Vedder’s Hard Sun, which was the first song Johan had ever played me, but then as a surprise, our very talented friends who played the song had tweaked it a bit to make it sound amazing and very unique, we both loved it, we both cried!
