A Spectacular View & Lavish Florals Made For The Perfect Day

A picture-perfect day, with spectacular views of the Stellenbosch mountains, is what made this wine farm wedding so memorable. Beautifully put together, with an overflow of florals and delicate details, we loved the combination of white decor with hints of golden accessories. An air of elegance was added to the whole day with its lavish little touches, like the black name cards and Black Star arum lillies. The bride’s stunning, custom designed mermaid dress was what took our breath away though –  it was so suited to the day’s chic setting.

Their Story

JP and I met years ago, when I was only 14 years old. He had come all the way from a small town in the Freestate to Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch. I was in the English girl school next door and it was very difficult for me not to notice the very tanned (and handsome) new boy, with a huge Afrikaans accent! Eight years later, after my graduation from Stellenbosch University, I moved to France to join JP while he played for French rugby club, Montpellier.

The Proposal

One Christmas, my family and I decided to take a trip to the Alps together. On Christmas Day, JP dragged me up one of the slopes, where he had planned on proposing to me. It was actually quite funny because he wanted to fall softly off his skis in the hope that I would take off my gloves and help him up. In the end, the poor guy fell so much harder than planned – at least still got the ‘yes’! When we got to the bottom of the slope, my family and two of our best friends were waiting for us – it was such a special moment.

The Style

Our wedding co-ordinators, Meagan from Bon Ton Events and Nikki from Bride Sidekick, both knew me really well and had helped me during the long road of planning my wedding. It was definitely a blessing that they knew my personality and my style, because I had wanted an elegant wedding but with crazy, out of this world flowers and Nikki created it perfectly. Our wedding venue was already gorgeous so we hardly had to add anything to it and being located in Stellenbosch it was also very special for JP and I.

Most Memorable Moments

Bride

One of my most memorable moments was when my dad came to fetch me in the wedding car. When he got out and saw me for the first time, he couldn’t stop telling me how beautiful I looked and it made me feel like I was the most beautiful bride that had ever existed. He held my hand right until we got to the ceremony and I could feel how proud he was of me and the husband I had chosen. It was a very special moment for us.

Another moment was when I approached the ceremony in the wedding car and managed to see a glimpse of JP through the oak trees. I still remember telling my dad, “Look how handsome he is!” I was so proud to know that I was becoming his wife and felt at peace knowing that I would commit myself to him for the rest of my life.

Lastly, the most special part of our day was when JP and I exchanged our vows. We had decided to write them ourselves because they’re such beautiful, sacred promises. We wanted to make sure that they came straight from our hearts. In that moment, nothing else mattered – it was just myself, JP in the presence of Jesus. I often re-read my vows in the hope that I can relive that touching moment again.

The Unexpected

My new husband forgot his wedding speech, but luckily no one noticed and everything worked out because he just went with the flow.

The Dress

My dress was custom-made by Casper Bosman and it beautifully highlighted all the the things I like about my figure, whilst hiding all the things I don’t like. I gave him a lot of free reign because I didn’t have a specific style in mind and it was the best decision I could have made. Luckily he had a vision of what would look best and in the end, the dress fit my body like a glove.

Tips

The Planning Process

I don’t think I could have done it all without Meagan. She really helped turn my vision into reality and JP and I could enjoy the journey leading up to our wedding day, without stressing about all the small things. I would say its vital to have a wedding planner who is experienced and who has good contacts in the industry.

The Budget

You will always be over budget, so be prepare for it. There are also always unnecessary costs which you can cut down on. Our wedding co-ordinators helped us to find alternative options to make sure that we stayed relatively within our budget. They also had great relationships with suppliers in the industry and got us discounts on quotes we never thought we would get. It was a real bonus, so our wedding co-ordination fee was worth every cent!
