Dylan & Cherie’s Quirky Contemporary Wedding

When we feature Real Weddings, we occasionally have no need for words. With Dylan and Cherie’s very chic wedding at the Conservatory in Franschhoek and Lizelle Lotter behind the lens, it’s safe to say that this is one of those moments. The images describe the day better than any words could.
However, we just briefly have to mention that we adore the effortlessly elegant wedding gown, tastefully simplistic décor and flower arrangements. The quintessentially stylish Cherie planned the wedding all the way from London. Take note brides-to-be, this proves that when you book a reliable team of suppliers to make your dream day a reality, the result will be nothing less.

Their love story

Dylan and I met through mutual friends way back in 2004. We have been mostly inseparable since then, even when I decided to pack up and move to the UK it was not long till Dylan joined me. Dylan got on one knee on New Year’s Eve of 2011 at the most spectacular Hogmanay street party in Edinburgh and proposed in front of the largest crowd of people.

What were the highlights of your wedding day?

I know everyone says the same thing but for me it was walking down the aisle seeing Dylan, knowing that I am marrying my best friend and most considerate, loyal and true man I have ever known.

Any advice for brides-to-be?

We tried to save a lot of money by doing things ourselves, which made the two weeks in South Africa before the wedding very tough. This could have been made easier by having a co-coordinator to help and manage things, but in the end it just meant a lot of late nights and a lot of hard work. Word of advice: ensure you have enough time to do everything if you are doing everything yourself.

Did anything unexpected happen?

Yes, we had a power cut just before the speeches. Need I say more! Luckily it didn’t affect our big day that much.

Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?

The Pretty Blog, wedding photographers’ websites, My Green Wedding Shoes Blog, Rock My Wedding Blog and the Wedding Chicks.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while organising your dream wedding?

Planning our wedding from abroad, also trying to find my wedding shoes.

Any time saving or organising tips?

Try and source all your suppliers close to your venue.

Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?

We bought most of our games for the ceremony and buying things online through ebay and Amazon to try and save money instead of hiring the props from hiring companies.

Did your wedding preparations include any DIY projects?

Most of the wedding included DIY. We made our own wedding save the date stop motion video and invitation that was published on our wedding website that was also a DIY project and we made our own thank you gifts which were personalised M&Ms in cute little boxes.

How does your wedding reflect your personalities?

Everything, our wedding was personalised and every single detail was chosen by us. Dylan really surprised me, he was so involved in the wedding planning it made us much closer as a couple. I think the attention to detail we showcased in our wedding reflects our personalities and also I think Dylan and I are both perfectionists.
We opened our dance floor on Skinny Love by Bon Iver.
