I’ve never been that good at gift wrapping, I love decorating gifts, but the actual wrapping has never really been my strong suit. It’s reasonably easy when the gift is square or rectangular – but most of time it’s not. That’s why I simply love gift bags.
This super easy step-by-step tutorial will help you fold gift bags in no time. You can use my free printables as a guide, but once you get how it works you can fold a gift bag out of any piece of paper, no matter the size or dimensions.
What you will need:
- A4/A3 piece of paper to fold the gift bag (reasonably thick, but not cardboard)
- paper scorer
- double sided tape / pretty washi tape
- hole punch
- string, ribbon or twine
Step 1Cut out your template along the edges and fasten your double sided tape on one of the short sides. Try and use the thinnest double sided tape you can find.
Step 2Score your paper on all the stripes. That will be 6 lines, 3 on each side of the front panel.
Step 3Fold your bag, creating a zig-zag effect on each side.
Step 4Remove the top layer of your double sided tape and stick the two short sides together. Make sure they bond, by pressing down quite hard.
Step 5Make sure you are facing the back side of your gift bag. Score a line a quarter up from the bottom.
Step 6Press the side borders down. Fold the flaps in, like wrapping a gift.
Step 7Now all your gift bag needs are holes punched at the top and some rope to give it handles. To add an extra touch you can insert eyelits in the punch holes, gives a pretty final touch and makes the handles a bit stronger. Voila easy-as-pie :)
