The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual event held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. Coachella is great fun, with people dressing a little “Woodstock” for the occasion. When the talented Natja from Garniche Studio dreamed up this shoot, it was with Coachella in mind.
Coachella directly correlates with bohemian vibes – in my mind at least. So I wanted to bring the wild, fun, musical, free, outdoorsy vibe back to wedding inspiration. ~ Natja, Garniche Studio
I wanted to do a shoot that would inspire brides, but that wasn’t necessarily a bridal shoot. I was also looking for a way to introduce myself to the KwaZulu-Natal area, as well as show South Africa, and the world what Durban has to offer. Although it is still a growing market within the creative industry, it really has so much creative potential.
I have a group of friends in Durban, all originally from Cape Town, who served as my models for the shoot. Their energy combined with the gorgeous KwaZulu-Natal scenery, with its rich, green, tropical environment, provided more than enough inspiration. Taking pictures of them laughing, dancing, and just having fun was exactly the feel I wanted to create.
The decor, like the outfits of the models, are in direct contrast with the environment – let’s be honest, they’re a little overdressed for the setting! But it worked. We used a rugged table, actually just a piece of wood placed on some bricks, to showcase the decor.
