Burnt Orange, Ash & Bone Give an Edgy Autumn Effect

This team of creatives drew on earthy elements to create a unique scene that they titled “Ash and Bone.” If you are looking for rugged, edgy and earthy inspiration for your wedding day then draw from this shoot that combined a rusty colour palette, dramatic makeup and an edgy gown to pull of something unique and beautiful.

Inspiration for the Shoot

I wanted this shoot to be something unique and authentic, and I wanted to work with creative, original artists.

The idea was to use elements that are contradictory, but fuse perfectly. Soft and hard, old and new, modern and classic. We shot in a burned field where lightning had struck and created a large fire a few days prior. The wind caused havoc but in the end we created something magical, out-the-box and unusual.

I loved the look and feel of the Kouebokkeveld, close to Ceres in the Western Cape, and ultimately I chose Kaleo Farm, a stunning wedding venue in the area. I asked Tehillah and Skillie of Kikitography to model for me, as I love their style and vibe. The floral and earthy elements were a result of Liezl of Liezl Kotze Floral Art’s creativity. Marnel Toerien painted Tehillah’s gorgeous face to perfection, and her sister, Janita Toerien, created the most stunning, flowy, edgy wedding gown for the shoot.

We wanted to show that a wedding does not need to be mainstream or on current trends. You don’t need to spend a fortune or invite a thousand guests, to make your wedding day meaningful. It can be a contrast and a compromise. You can be creative and original and achieve something truly unique.
