The luxurious rooms were recently redecorated by designer extraordinaire, Etienne Hanekom, and are all uniquely decorated in Etienne’s characteristic contemporary dramatic style.
I know where 95 percent of our ingredients come from. I will not accept anything but the best for the restaurant and go out of my way to find it. I am constantly trying to find new producers in the Stellenbosch region, while encouraging my staff to get involved too by foraging for specialist ingredients and helping out in the gardens.
The food at Majeka House’s intimate restaurant, Makaron, is simply sublime. Tanja is determined to find the best local ingredients, and also to know where it was produced and it shows in the feasts that she and her team prepares. Makaron recently introduced their spring menu including dishes like hake with miso, roasted sweetcorn puree, carrot butter and the surprise crunch of spekboom; free-range crown roasted chicken with mushrooms and nasturtium puree; pan- seared springbok with celery root and leaf and a chive oil; and grass-fed veal with sweetbreads, cauliflower, thyme and chive. The breakfast is one of the best we’ve come across with freshly made yogurt, pressed juices and a selection of buttery baked pastries
