Big Sur – Worth a Road Trip for Sure!

We absolutely love travelling to new places and crave adventure whenever we see a photo from some exotic destination we’ve never heard of. That’s what we loved about this beautiful road trip by photographer Crystal Lynn and her husband. We asked them to tell us all about their travels up the Californian coast – now officially on our bucket list!

The Trip

My husband and I recently stayed at the Post Ranch Inn along the California coast in Big Sur. After searching for a local retreat, I stumbled upon this resort and knew we had to try it out. It’s perched on a cliff over-looking the stunning Pacific ocean. Besides massages and yoga classes, you can cruise the infamous Highway 1, stopping along the way at McWay Falls, the beach in Julia Pffeifer State Park and several other gorgeous photo opportunities!

The entire trip was an absolute dream – hanging over the edge of the infinity spa with a glass of wine, while watching whales off in the distance was certainly one of my favorite moments. The food and wine at Sierra Mar, a restaurant made entirely with glass walls, was also an incredible memory.

Take your time on the drive – it can be very touristy so take advantage of the slow drivers. Roll the windows down and truly enjoy the fresh air. There is very spotty cell service in Big Sur so make sure you know where you are going before you hit the road, in case you loose signal. Always bring lots of layers! Big Sur is lovely during the day but gets super cold in the evening. Make sure to wake up for sunrise because it’s truly amazing and there’s lots of wildlife.
