We love Netherwoods venue, we love, love, love Jacki Bruniquel’s images and we absolutely LURVE a white “colour” scheme! So you can imagine how delighted we are to share a wedding involving all three.
Kosie and Michelle tied the knot on a rainy day in April. Even though it was pouring with rain, it made for some gorgeous pictures. Well done Jacki!

Tell us your love story.

As a single working mom, I was certainly not looking for love. Kosie and I met through a mutual friend and for him it was “love at first sight”. However, one “little man” in my life was more than enough for me at that time, but he relentlessly pursued me and it was not long before I had fallen head over heels. Our relationship blossomed despite the fact that he was contracted to play rugby overseas. After two years of phone calls and Skype, he returned to South Africa and it was a done deal, we were on our way to becoming a family.

Did you suspect anything before he popped the question?

No, we had talked about getting married but he popped the question a lot sooner than expected. He did very well to keep it all a secret.

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

The highlight for me was walking down the aisle and realising this was it, I was about to marry the man of my dreams - we were both overwhelmed with emotion.

Any advice for brides-to-be?

Relax, go with the flow, enjoy the preparation and try to take in every moment of your big day.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

Even though it absolutely poured on our wedding day, I would not have done a single thing differently! Maybe have had a few more umbrellas!

Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?

The internet and bridal magazines are great for getting ideas. I spent hours browsing through wedding blogs and looking at wedding photographs, but I made sure our wedding still reflected our own personal style.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while organising your dream wedding?

STAYING WITHIN THE BUDGET! There are so many resources available for weddings, you need to shop around for the best price, it takes time but it is definitely worth it.

Any time saving or organising tips?

Be sure to make lists and write absolutely everything down. I had a whole wedding file by the end.

Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget-friendly?

Do whatever you can yourself, ask family and friends for help – they will love being involved.

What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?

We chose I’ll Be by Edwin McCain. It is the most beautiful song and we felt it really captured the essence of our love.

Were any of your family members or friends involved in the wedding and what were their contributions?

Our wedding was a real family affair as I was the last of three daughters to get married. My mom was the most amazing ”wedding planner” and helped me with every little detail of the big day. My sisters were bridesmaids and I was blessed to have my eldest sister perform a song during our ceremony, which was very special to us.

Did your wedding preparations include any DIY projects?

We collected many old frames, which we painted and aged to house the table seating plan. We also made blackboards, which we used to write the menu, drinks list etc. on.

What was the “theme” of your wedding, and why?

The theme of our wedding was simple, classic and elegant with an all-white colour scheme. Kosie and I wanted to create a beautiful and unique wedding without being over the top.

How does your wedding reflect your personalities?

We didn’t stick strictly with tradition – no veil, no wedding cake and no DJ; instead we used a jazz band which lent itself to a very relaxed atmosphere, which is more “us”.

Words of wisdom from the bride …

Concentrate more on your love and your relationship than on the details of the big day, and the rest will fall into place.  Don’t sweat the small stuff!

Thanks so much for featuring Michelle and Kosie’s big day. It was certainly a challenge with all that rain but they just smiled through it all which made my job easy. I just love shooting at Netherwood …. cannot recommend this venue enough.

So beautiful! I would love to know where the bride got that folding screen. I am looking for two to create an entranceway at my ceremony and this one is really pretty.
