Meet Dustin Cantrell – Photography Crush

November 9, 2012 by
We can’t stress the importance of choosing the right photographer for your wedding enough. Not only because you will be looking at those images for the rest of your life, but also because you will be dealing with your photographer for the biggest part of your wedding day. It’s so important to click with the person documenting your day. So if you’re looking for a great photographer with a sense of adventure, then look no further than New York-based photographer Dustin Cantrell. He is incredibly passionate about travel and photography. Dustin caught the travel bug after a three month backpacking trip in Europe and soon found himself on a plane to Australia. During that time he worked on a cattle station in Western Australia and assisted a celebrityphotographer in Melbourne.
After gaining the confidence he needed behind the camera, he decided to find a home base and pursue a career as photographer. He has been working as wedding photographer for the past two years. “I’m happiest when I am behind the camera. I enjoy shooting with digital, film, and polaroid cameras,” says Dustin. On the day of the wedding Dustin likes to arrive as early as possible and stay late into the night. “I want to tell the full wedding story from the beginning to the end”. Dustin shoots in a relaxed and unobtrusive manner. Most of the time you won’t even realize he’s there. “I strongly believe candid shots are the best and these are the moments you are too busy to notice the day of the wedding. My goal is to capture your day, not dictate it,” says Dustin.

Homemade Nutty Seed Brittle

After Nicola and Tasha suggested that we shoot a type of brittle, I did some research and put a recipe together from my previous experience with sugar caramel. Nut brittle makes such a beautiful gift, and everyone loves the seductive crack of nuts and hard caramel. When it was time to test it, I learned the hard way that a brittle is not always as simple as it seems.
