Gareth & Courtney – Couple Shoot

We have a little early morning treat for you today, so get your cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy this lovely couple shoot. Now as many of you know, we are always looking for something different. But sometimes I am just drawn to shoots that are simple. I find them very refreshing, and today’s couple shoot is exactly that. Gareth and Courtney chose two beautiful locations to do their engagement shoot. And they opted for timeless outfits to match. We’re loving Courtney’s striped top as well as her navy boyfriend blazer. It’s a look that will always be in vogue.
But there’s more to Courtney than just her effortless sense of style. She also loves rugby. Yes, an American girl that loves rugby. It is through her love for rugby that she met her South African fiancé Gareth. No surprise there (read the full story at the bottom). The two will be tying the knot in July. Thanks Courtney for sending over your pictures and happy planning!

Tell us your love story. How did you meet and fall in love?

Gareth and I met by chance, through our love of rugby. We met about six months after Gareth had first moved to the US from Johannesburg, in the fall of 2007. Gareth had recently started attending a local college, and by the recommendation of a neighbour joined my university’s rugby team – he had previously been at the University of Pretoria Rugby Academy and wanted to keep playing in the US. Meanwhile, I had just returned from a year abroad in London where I started watching the game. When I returned to California, one of my good friends was dating another rugby player and invited me out to a game
and dinner. Gareth and I met at a rugby dinner event; we began dating a few months afterward. I feel like it was love at first sight, but Gareth was a little shy, so it took months of hanging around the pitch to get his attention, however, once we went on our first date, we have beeninseparable and will be celebrating our fourth anniversary this month!

So how did he pop the question?

Gareth and I went on a lovely vacation to the Florida Keys this July. We were staying with my family in a rental home on Islamorada Key, enjoying a week of fishing and lazy beach days. It was a very romantic trip in general, but I did start to grow a bit suspicious before the end of our week in the keys, Gareth seemed a bit nervous – and my parents packed about six bottles of champagne, which remained unopened the whole week. On our second to last day, Gareth took me to Bahia Honda State Beach, a secluded beach with crystal blue waters and gorgeous bright white sand. We enjoyed a private, relaxing day and a sunset dinner on the water. On our way back to the rental home, Gareth pulled the car off the side of the road at a small beach, called Annie’s Beach. Under the full moon he surprised me with champagne and a beautiful sapphire and diamond ring – a family heirloom from his uncle from South Africa. When we returned to the rental home, the champagne bottles were uncorked (finally) and we celebrated with my family. It was a truly romantic and wonderful end to our trip!
