Gretha Bester, co-owner of Makietie Linen, opens her lovely family home to us today. We met Gretha and Janine from Makietie at Kamers vol Geskenke last year, and fell in love with their gorgeous linen range. Some of you may have seen that we used Makietie linen for some of our food shoots. The fabric is not just beautiful, but also super photogenic, and made our job really easy.
At the end of last year my husband and I took the plunge and bought ourselves a proper coffee machine. There hasn’t been a day that I’ve regretted that choice, it has changed my life dramatically. I can now officially be labelled a coffee snob because nothing compares to bean-to-cup coffee.
I met my dear friend Frank in 2003 when we started our chef’s training in Stellenbosch. We hit it off instantly, and I was soon introduced to his wonderful family. Since then we’ve had many wonderful times at their home in Caledon, as well as their beautiful beach house in Kleinmond.
Stylish fashion brand Desray needs no introduction. In fact Desray dresses make a regular appearance in South Africa’s leading glossy magazines. You will also find Desiree Jearey’s beautiful garments in more than 60 boutiques all over South Africa, or in one of their four exclusive shops in the Western Cape. But today we will not be gushing over her classic dresses, trendy scarfs or flattering tops.
I have been bugging Tasha to photograph her home and let us feature it ever since we started working together on our food shoots in the beginning of the year. That was even before I had seen her house. You see, Tasha shows up every month for our shoots with the most beautiful props, all her own collectables!
Today we visit the home of Cape Town caterer Nelleke Elston. Nelleke and her husband Micheal bought the darling cottage 2 ½ years ago, and has transformed it into an airy and tranquil home. They took on a lot of DIY projects. And by this I mean DIY in the true sense of the word. With the help of family and friends they sanded the floors, painted walls and even transformed the kitchen.
Our real weddings and real homes are the highlights of my week! I get so inspired by other people’s creativity and original ideas. Today we bring you the chic, but cozy cottage of a very stylish couple, Marike Groenewald and Andre van Aswegen. The couple bought the place shortly after they got engaged, and has lived in it for about a year.
