Gretha Bester, co-owner of Makietie Linen, opens her lovely family home to us today. We met Gretha and Janine from Makietie at Kamers vol Geskenke last year, and fell in love with their gorgeous linen range. Some of you may have seen that we used Makietie linen for some of our food shoots. The fabric is not just beautiful, but also super photogenic, and made our job really easy.
For our home tour we head off to the beautiful old house of the Le Cordeur family from Paarl. Heike Le Cordeur is a wonderfully creative florist and the home she shares with her husband Andrew, and their two children Luca and Indya, is just as lovely as the arrangements she dreams up.
We make our way today to Oranjezight to take a peek at the home of Magdel van der Walt, the one half of Tintown. The Van der Walt family have been living in their home for nine years, and Magdel says it was “love at first sight” for her.
I met my dear friend Frank in 2003 when we started our chef’s training in Stellenbosch. We hit it off instantly, and I was soon introduced to his wonderful family. Since then we’ve had many wonderful times at their home in Caledon, as well as their beautiful beach house in Kleinmond.
Stylish fashion brand Desray needs no introduction. In fact Desray dresses make a regular appearance in South Africa’s leading glossy magazines. You will also find Desiree Jearey’s beautiful garments in more than 60 boutiques all over South Africa, or in one of their four exclusive shops in the Western Cape. But today we will not be gushing over her classic dresses, trendy scarfs or flattering tops.
The home of architect Eben Rall was sent to us by one of his good friends Marlé Smit. Marlé says even though she has always known that Eben had a great sense of style, she was still blown away when she walked into his new beach front apartment in Strand.
Today we visit the home of Cape Town caterer Nelleke Elston. Nelleke and her husband Micheal bought the darling cottage 2 ½ years ago, and has transformed it into an airy and tranquil home. They took on a lot of DIY projects. And by this I mean DIY in the true sense of the word. With the help of family and friends they sanded the floors, painted walls and even transformed the kitchen.
