Rivierbosch Cottage {Home Tour}

May 15, 2012 by
Today’s featured home is a “home away from home”, perfect for a couple’s getaway. Rivierbosch Cottageis a cosy self-catering cottage in Stellenbosch. The quaint little place, with its inviting red door, is situated on a smallholding at the entrance of the beautiful Jonkershoek Valley. We met up with Kobá Solms, the creative force behind Rivierbosch Cottage. She and her pet cow Gesoes welcomed us with warm tea and a big smile.
Kobá told us that she started redecorating the sweet little house at the end of last year. Together with her equally creative husband and mother-in-law they transformed the little “jonanshuis” (a bachelor flat) which was built for the small holding’s foreman. So if you are looking for a relaxing, romantic and affordable weekend getaway  in the winelands then you have to visit Rivierbosch CottageYolandé Marx was behind the lens.

My style is best described as…

Rustic Farm

I am inspired by…

Fynbos, mountains, music, people, waves, a good cup of tea and the call of a fish eagle.

I love the little cottage because…

It is surrounded by nature and therefore has a calming effect on the stressed and tired, depressed and uninspired.

I splurge on…

Good quality linen, facials, 2 ply toilet paper, mountain bike gadgets, free range chicken and cd’s.

The biggest challenge with the cottage was …

The bedroom, because it’s quite small. I decided to not use bedside tables and rather put shelfs up against the wall. I also didn’t use bed side lamps and decided to use clip on bed side lamps.

My advice for other home decor enthusiasts is…

Spring clean!  Throw away! De-cluttering your space.

What do you love most about Rivierbosch Cottage

The trees…

    Absolutely lovely… can’t wait to have my own house and be able to do things like this, customising my own place exactly how I like!

    This is a lovely house, it instantly gives off a homey feeling. I agree, with a small room and wall shelf is a good idea! I love the plates on the wall! where are they from?
