We love

September 26, 2013
My best food discovery, by far, at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show, was Las Paletas ice lollies. Their nostalgic look and flavours won me over at first glance, and of course they taste amazing too. Las Paletas is owned by Jason Sandell and his lovely Colombian wife, Diana. The two left their successful careers behind in London to pursue Diana’s foodie dreams, and came here to share a piece of Latin America with Cape Town. Las Paletas literally means ice lollies in Spanish, and is seen all year round in Colombia. Each lolly is handmade with love and attention to detail. Using only the purest of ingredients and no artificial flavours, colourants or additives, you can enjoy the carnival of flavours, guilt-free!

With creative owners like Jason and Diana the unconventional flavours like sour mango, pineapple & chilli, spiced mango lassi, roasted banana & cinnamon, coconut lemonade and guava cheesecake are no surprise. Since first opening a factory in early March 2013, Las Paletas have featured at local fresh food markets as well as the Galileo cinema at Kirstenbosch, Pick n Pay Taste of Cape Town, SA Cheese festival, Olive Festival, Good Food and Wine show in Cape Town and SA Wedding Expo. The great thing about the Las Paletas team is that they also cater for kiddies parties’, dinners and corporate events. Throw in an order of specially made Las Paletas ice Lollies to make for a memorable taste sensation for your guests. We had them at our launch party, and they were a big hit!

Be sure to grab a Las Paletas ice lolly at this year’s KAMERS vol geskenke Stellenbosch. KAMERS Stellenbosch will take place at the picturesque Webersburg Estate, 5 to 10 November. They will be in Bloemfontein for the second time at Woodlands Conference & Function Venue, 3 to 6 October, and they end the year on a high note in Irene, Pretoria at The Open Window School, 3 to 8 December. This feature was brought to you in collaboration with KAMERS vol geskenke.
