We’ve always wanted to do a pretty bridal shoot in the bustling City of Gold. And when Christine made her way to Johannesburg some time ago, we got our chance. Candice from Absolute Perfection offered to pull together a romantic wedding decor look, especially for our readers.
When we featured Elonah and Gregory’s colourful wedding back in 2011, we knew there was something special about this bride. It’s evident from her wedding’s gorgeous decor that she is exceptionally creative, and the bright hanging squares they made have been copied and pinned many many times.
Back in the heydays of Nook Eatery, my favourite daytime hangout in Stellenbosch a few years ago, their pear and almond tart was one of my ultimate pastries to enjoy with a strong cup of fresh coffee. Unfortunately, Nook doesn’t exist anymore. Jessica and Luke moved to Greyton, and they started a new venture called A Good Place To Gather.
If you haven’t heard of minted yet, they are a very hip, online stationery site that crowd sources all of their designs. That’s a fancy way of saying, each month they hold a challenge for a type of card and designers from all over the world enter. The end result is there is something for every aesthetic! We had the pleasure of guest judging one of their recent wedding challenges.
If it’s good honest fare you’re after, then look no further than Salvationcafé in Johannesburg’s trendy 44 Stanley. Self-taught chef and owner of Salvationcafé , Claudia Giannoccaro, promises to serve great quality unpretentious food “with a story to tell”. Claudia cooked her way around the world, and her globe-trotting experiences is reflected in the menu.
As the days are drawing darker and colder, all I want for dinner is comfort food. Not necessarily buckets full of mac ‘n cheese, but definitely something buttery and indulgent. Although pasta is considered a relatively simple staple, it can certainly be turned into something spectacular if you take the time.
