Our last real wedding for 2012 is this pastel coloured vow renewal photographed by Nadia Meli. Sascha and Maria first said their vows in Spain five years ago, wedding dress and all. In August 2012,on a warm and sunny day they renewed their vows at the beach. This time however, they had a very special guest as witness, their beautiful little girl, Ella.

Irina Thiessen from Emotions & Events, who planned this sweet celebration,  says they wanted to create a very intimate setting for the three of them. Since the ceremony was planned at a beach location, they went for a maritime influence in the décor. Sascha and Maria loves the Protea flower, and coincidentally the colours of the flowers matched the pastel colour scheme. So they were made the star of the show. The whole idea was to have a light and sandy look and  feel, which worked perfectly with this special and relaxed celebration.

Tell us your love story?

We met at a music retreat and it was love at first sight for both of us! When Sascha saw Maria the first thought that went through his mind was: “This is the girl I will marry.” On October 30th 2006 Sascha picked me up, spontaneously of course, for a ride in my favorite car. We visited the Heidelberg Castle. He blindfolded me, lights candles and fireworks. Then he proposed – singing the big question: “Maria, will you marry me?” Of course I said yes. People standing around were applauding and cheering us on.

Why did you decide renew your wedding vows?

After five years of marriage, we wanted invite God into our relationship and our future. When you fall in love at first, you express your love and appreciation toward your spouse all the time, but in the hustle and bustle of life you quickly take each other for granted. Once again, we want to wholeheartedly commit and consciously express our deep feelings toward each other and to communicate how much we cherish each other. This time it would be even more special because our little daughter Ella was present.

What are you looking forward to now?

In ten years we would like to live with our by then hopefully big family in an old house that we ourselves renovated into our dream house. We dream of spending a year in Australia – especially Sascha does, since his brother Harry lives there. For our future, we never want to lose sight of what is most important: our love toward each other and toward God. He is the center of our lives. Who knows, we might get married again in 10 years… with our 5 kids as flower bearers”.
