Oranjezight Family Home {Home Tour}

We make our way today to Oranjezight to take a peek at the home of Magdel van der Walt, the one half  of  Tintown. The Van der Walt family have been living in their home for nine years, and Magdel says it was “love at first sight” for her. “I knew I wanted to buy this house before I had even been inside and tried to convince the real estate agent to not go on show with it. When she refused, I came back from holiday a day early to make the show date and offered the full price the next day”.

We’re loving that this house is filled with collectibles and memories, which makes it cosy and inviting. My favourite part of the Van der Walt home is the wooden kitchen cupboards with the ladder, and lets not forget the shelves filled with kitchen tools and cookbooks. Perfect for any domestic goddess.

The main studio bedroom is also gorgeous. So calm and fresh. I can just imagine how wonderful it must be dozing off in such beautiful surroundings. Thank you Yolandé Marx for the gorgeous images.

5 Minutes with Magdel:

My style is best described as extremely eclectic, I am a more-is-more kind of girl…

I am inspired by absolutely anything and everything. I love this crazy city I live in!

I love my home because it has history – and lots of strange little nooks perfect for putting up strange little collections.

My home DIY projects included loads of painting and planning. Oh, and constantly re-arranging my collections.

I splurged on my new loft upstairs. It is the one serene space in my house.

My advice for other home decor enthusiasts are to plan your space and then slowly collect your bits and pieces from all over. I love gumtree.

The biggest challenge is finding space for the constant stream of gorgeous items that follow me home. My long-suffering husband pleads that if something new comes in, something old has to go out, but I am a hoarder at heart.

What do you love most about your home?  There is never a dull moment in my house, it is a little bit crazy like me.

My favourite shops are Big Blue for gifts, Antiques on Kloof for quirky finds, Loft Living for big pieces. But I honestly manage to fall in love with something wherever I go.

My favourite destination is The Breede River & Robertson wine route.

My style heroes are Liesel Crafford, my fabulously stylish interior decorator friend who is always trying to be diplomatic when facing my design dilemmas. Oh, and Andre my partner and the designer at TinTown.

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.

    The kitchen shelving with the ladder is gorgeous but the bathroom is what made me swoon – what a dreamy space!
