We end the week with a bright yellow bang with this delightful artsy wedding. There’s so many wonderful details in every element of Bernhard and Elsa’s big day. I wish I could share every picture of this celebration with you.

We’re adoring everything about this wedding, we’re loving the warm and happy yellow colour scheme. We also can’t get enough of Elsa’s unconventional tea length wedding dress. Elsa says, “Because I had quite a curious and specific idea for my dress I had to search high and low for the right designers to make it. Luckily I found Crystal and Elmé from Birch&Elm – two crazies who liked my wild idea of incorporating paper into the dress. We designed the dress so I would be able to wear the short dress again, and the tutu with paper swans is an art piece by itself”.

Tell us your love story.

We met when we were 6 years old at Stellenbosch Primary School in Juffrou Visser’s Sub A class. He remembers my brown bob hairstyle and I remember his big blue eyes. Both our families moved elsewhere and eventually we reconnected back in Stellenbosch after university in 2010 – at a concert at the Klein Libertas theatre. It took just a few dates and we were both smitten! A bit of long distance duty later (while I was in Amsterdam and he in Johannesburg), and twenty years after we first met, he asked me out…

Fast forward to December 2011 and we’re on a ski holiday with a few close friends in Switzerland. On our second last day, on one knee (in knee-deep snow) between the pine trees and with a bottle of Moët waiting, he asked me to be his wife!

What were the highlights of your wedding day?

Walking into the beautiful Moederkerk and seeing Bernhard waiting for me at the end of the aisle with a huge smile / the yellow & white streamer chaos when we came out of the church / taking pictures with a double rainbow / the best man speech / the most incredible food and desserts / dancing our bums off!

Any advice for brides-to-be?

If you can, get a wedding planner. You still need to make the important decisions at the end of the day, but you don’t need to stress about making them happen.

Also, the whole planning process can get overwhelming at times (taking up every spare moment and weekend you’ve got), so remember to take a step back every now and again to remember it’s about the two of you…not about a big party for all your family and friends.

Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?

Wedding blogs such as The Pretty Blog and wedding magazines – and of course, Pinterest – every bride’s best friend (and time-wasting enemy…beware)

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while organising your dream wedding?

Having been blessed with the best wedding planner on earth, we didn’t have many obstacles. Guestlist and seating arrangements were probably the most difficult – ask your parents and family to help you out with this one, it can get tricky.

Any time saving or organising tips?

Pinterest serves as an online wedding scrapbook whichc all of your suppliers can access to have a look at the things you like (and don’t like!). No need to physically meet up and lug around loads of magazine clippings…although on the flipside you can waste A LOT of time trying to find exactly what you’re looking for – try to find specific bridal pinners to follow…

What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?

Alphabeat – 10 000 nights – it’s super fun to dance to!

What was the “theme” of your wedding, and why?

“A ray of sunshine” – because it so beautifully describes our relationship, our personalities and approach to life – to see how everybody brought this theme to life at the wedding, from our guests to our suppliers, was just incredible and made our hearts sing.
