Country Couple Shoot

As a midweek treat we bring you this darling couple shoot by Adene Photography. Iresa and Tiaan tied the knot in the Karoo two weekends ago on Spring Day. To keep with the earthy and rustic feel of the Karoo the couple decided to go for the same natural look for their engagement session.

We’re adoring the beautiful setting they chose to for the pictures. The canola fields and orchids are so beautiful in autumn. We’re also totally smitten with Iresa’s beautiful flower wreath.

Their Love Story…

Tiaan moved from Johannesburg to Cape Town, to start a new job in Paarl. The company he worked for sent him to their factory in Ladismith, a town that Tiaan never even knew existed.

Meanwhile I had just finished my studies in Stellenbosch and had gone to Ladismith, my hometown, for holiday with my parents. So one night we had a girls night and my sister and friend burst into the house where we were having pedicures and facials. My sister said that I had to go with them to only bar/restaurant in Ladismith at that time, named The Olive Garden. According to them there was a very attractive guy that they saw there, and that he was not from the area.

Unbeknown to me,  another friend of mine already met Tiaan at the factory that day, and told him about a girl that he wanted to introduce him to. (It turns out I  was that gir!l). My sister and friend eventually convinced me to with them “just have a look” at this guy. When I arrived at The Olive Garden Restaurant, I saw Tiaan standing next to the bar, having chats and laughs with all the locals. He turned around and saw me standing at the door, peeping in. He walked towards me, offered me a drink…and only then introduced himself. It was love at first sight. And here we are almost 4 years later, still very much in love.

So how did he propose?

It was a typical overcast day in the Boland, rainy, cold. Tiaan’s plans were to invite my family over for the weekend, and then we would get engaged on Table Mountain. On Saturday morning, the 2nd of July 2011, Tiaan woke up and it was pouring outside, so with the weather not playing along, he had to deviate to Plan B. We were shopping with my family, when he “quickly had to go to work for an emergency”, and asked me to join him. So leaving my parents in the mall, we quickly stopped at his work, where he then said that we had to go for a drive. I did not suspect anything, as this is normal for him. We drove up to the Taal Monument, where it was very overcast. It felt as if we drove through a cloud, it was soo beautiful. We walked to a look-out point, and he got out a small bottle of bubbly that was hidden in his jacket! He then dropped to his knee, in the mud, and before he could say anything or pop the question, I just shouted YESSSS! Well, after all the giggling and saying yes, he asked me to marry him. We went back to meet my parents and the celebration began! It was perfect!

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.
