Bridesmaid Proposal {Clever Idea}

Some time ago a newly engaged bride-to-be sent me this “bridesmaid proposal”. I thought it was such a wonderful idea, doing something special to honour your bridesmaids. We often forget that the bridesmaids spend a lot of time and money to make the bride’s big day special.

Vicky tells us in her own words how she got the idea for the “bridesmaids proposal”: ” I’m Vicky Alvarez Campos and I was born in Argentina, but moved to Cape Town 4 years ago for love… In the summer 06/07, while on a working holiday in Aspen, Colorado I met the man who would become my fiancé. We only dated for 3 weeks before I had to go back to Argentina to work and finish varsity. After that Arri came to visit me for 3 weeks, then I came to visit him in South Africa for another 3 weeks and at the end of that year I moved to Cape Town… a few months ago he asked me to marry him.

When we decided to have the wedding in South Africa I knew I wanted to have bridesmaids (a tradition we don’t have in Argentina). I’m so thankful to my best friends, because without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. I have two groups, my childhood friends with whom I share wonderful memories and I know I can count on, no matter what… and my friends from South Africa, without them I would have never been able to cope with moving to a new country.

So I wanted the “proposal” to be something more special than just a phone call, sms or email. I saw the idea of  ”proposing to bridesmaids” on a wedding blog, a long time ago . The bride made a box with a card and some goodies. I knew my girls didn’t deserve anything less than that, so I made these 6 wooden suitcases that I named “Friendship road trip through life”. The 3 bigger ones for the girls that live in SA… the smaller ones for the girls in Argentina so I could post them with no problem. For the girls in South Africa I organized a picnic. We were meant to hike my favorite route up Table Mountain, but the weather couldn’t have been worst. So we ended up having the picnic inside the dog’s house (actually it’s more like a tree house ). It turned out to be great fun. My mother helped me to do something for my friends back home. She invited them all to her place for tea and gave them the boxes. Inside the boxes I included: A set of cards with info about the wedding, and the bridesmaids duties: feel beautiful, hold some gorgeous flowers and wipe away my happy tears!”

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.
