Home Tour {Baby Rood’s Nursery}

Even though I do not have my own children yet, I enjoy looking at pretty nurseries. I think it’s one of those rooms that you can have a little fun with. This week we give you a peek at baby Rood’s beautiful nursery. Rood’s mother is Retha Erichsen, the owner of The Farmer’s Daughter, one of our favourite decor shops in Stellenbosch. Retha is also a well known stylist and creative director. So when Retha said we are welcome to photograph her little girl’s bedroom, we jumped at the opportunity.

They live in Dorp Street, one of Stellenbosch’s most beautiful and well known streets. Retha rents the house from  two beautiful people, Walter and Colleen. The place has been in Colleen’s family for many years.  Retha says, “It has many stories to tell and just living in this space is an experience in itself”.

Since Retha did not know whether her baby would be a boy or a girl, she opted for a neutral look. We absolutely love the grey and white colour scheme. It’s so refreshing.

5 minutes with Retha:

My style is best described as…

Eclectic, authentic, old & new.

I am inspired by…

Love and life.

I love the space because…

It is filled with everything I love.

My home DIY projects include…

To be continued. But, Rood’s room was a fun challenge as I didn’t know if my unborn was a boy or girl prior to the birth.

I splurged on…

Nothing. Having two babies (Rood and my shop, The Farmer’s Daughter) you do not spend a cent.

My advice for other home decor enthusiasts are…

Do what you want and do it with passion. Develop your own style and let trends only be an inspiration.

The biggest challenge was:

Making the house a home for Rood and I and everyone that ends up at our door. Because some of the family’s furniture and personal goods stayed behind and there was a strong sense of their style left in the house. But, we have integrated our stuff and it works well together.

What do you love most about your home?

We’re living in a piece of history, we are surrounded by nature, we have our own library and fireplace, we’re walking distance anywhere in Stellenbosch, and the kitchen is the best place to spent a few hours in everyday.

    Hi!

I’d love to know what colour paint you used on Rood’s walls – keen to paint an accent wall in our bedroom that colour =)

    Thanks!

The colour on Rood’s bedroom wall was mixed by Builder’s Express for me and I’m referring to it as charcoal. The technique of mixing power and a base colour is old but great because you can decide if you want it lighter or darker. For this, they’ve mixed eight of their black powder sachets into a 5 liter white PVA. Just remember to mix enough because you never get the exact same colour twice.
