Kaveto & Roxanne’s Cape Town Wedding

Last week has been has been super eventful  here at The Pretty Blog (eventful also implies lots of phone calls, little sleep and quite a few of logistical challenges). As you might already know, we hosted our first Pretty Inspired Wedding Session. It was such a fantastic day, and in the process we got work with some amazing people and meet some of our wonderful readers. Then yesterday, Christine and I had the chance to put our feet up at The South African Food and Wine Blogger Indaba, which was wonderful. So we feel energised and ready for another week filled to the brim with prettiness.

So let’s get started. Your first little bit of pretty, is the elegant wedding of Kaveto and Roxanne. These two doctors live in Namibia, but decided to tie the knot in The Mother City. They had a intimate and stylish reception at The Twelve Apostles. Roxanne was such a radiant bride. Absolutely beautiful! And we can’t get enough of that simple, but beautiful yellow tulip bouquet.

Yolandé Marx was behind the lens.

Tell us your love story?

We are both medical doctors and we met during our medical internship at the hospital. I only really started noticing him when we were working in theatre simultaneously and he would always make a point of chatting to me. I couldn’t resist his charming ways and after one date we were inseparable! There was no over the top proposal, it was really a decision that we made together to get married.

What were the highlights of your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle with my Dad by my side and seeing my future husband smiling from ear to ear waiting for me! We had a very small and intimate reception which made for a great party where everyone could let down their hair.

Any advice for brides-to-be?

Be organised. Try to plan ahead of time to avoid last minute stress. Make sure you have a wedding co-ordinator. It’s the only way that you can be relaxed on the day and actually enjoy the wedding along with your guests. Delegate. Ask for help from your bridesmaids and family; trust me you will need it.

Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?

I surfed the internet a lot. There are many wedding inspiration sites (like The Pretty Blog!) that were quite useful. I also looked at portfolios of different photographers online.

What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while organising your dream wedding?

We are currently living in Namibia and the wedding was in Cape Town where my family lives. I had to plan several trips to Cape Town to plan the wedding. It required a lot of organisation so that I could set up as many meetings as possible during my trip.

Any time saving or organising tips?

Use the internet! Most service providers have websites making it easy to compare them and choose the one you like. Wedding inspiration sites have useful lists of highly recommended and professional vendors.

Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?

Know what you want and stick to the game plan. Do some research on the costs involved before you set your budget so that you can make provision for the things you really want. We did not have any invitations made or mailed as such. Most of our guests were from different countries so we had an e-invitation designed and emailed that to everyone. This completely cut the cost of mailing expensive handmade invitations that get thrown away after the wedding anyway. We also didn’t buy any gifts for the guests because they are usually tacky and end up collecting dust in a corner. Instead, we had the wedding cake cut and boxed for the guests to take home and enjoy.

What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?

When A Man Loves A Woman; it was my husband’s choice :)

Did your wedding preparations include any DIY projects?

Not really, but we did use photos from our engagement shoot for the table numbers.

How does your wedding reflect your personalities?

We both wanted to have something simple yet special. We had a very intimate reception of 45 friends and family creating a relaxed atmosphere where everyone felt free to enjoy themselves.

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.
