My latest colour crush is navy blue. I used to hate navy blue because it reminded me of the uniform we had to wear at chef school. Luckily I have seen the light and now it’s one of my favourite colours for summer. My mom calls this colour French navy. I have no idea if it’s the right term but it sounds much nicer than blue.
Anyhoo, so when I opened Eileen’s wedding pictures I was so happy to see that she used my favourite colour as her wedding colour scheme. Eileen says they opted for the blue as she’s a bit of a tomboy. She’s also a big fan of the Smurfs, that explains the fun cake toppers. Eileen pared the deep blue with white for a classic, modern look. Gorgeous! We’re also loving Eileen’s stunning lace dress by Elbeth Gillis, and of course the beautiful venue 401 Rozendal.
Tell us your love story? When and where did you first meet?
Our story is just like any other love story. Guy meets girl, guy falls in love with girl and guy asks girl to marry him… Not exactly! I met Jurie when I was interviewed for a position at a business he owns. Little did I know that I met my best friend that day! We tried to be friends for a while, but we just knew there was something very special about our friendship. So we moved in together and started our lives as a pair.
Fast forward four years and Jurie proposed after a romantic lunch and helicopter ride.
What were the highlights of your wedding day?
Our wedding day was so special! My brother flew down from UK and as if that wasn’t special enough… it was time for our first dance (Vaughan Gardiner’s song was our song off course) when I noticed a man singing… Jurie surprised with Vaughan at our wedding, singing our song! I was speechless and started crying instantly. I am married to a legend. 4
Any advice for brides-to-be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. The things you worry about now won’t be important on you special day. Make sure that you have enough wine and food with good music and you’ll have the time of your life! Oh and you better take a pair of flats (shoes) just in case.
Any time saving or organising tips?
Do yourself a favour and get a coordinator to help and oversee your wedding. I couldn’t have done it without her…
Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?
It will help to know people in the industry. It also helps if you have the time to make and design your own stationary, you will cut a big amount if you do that yourself.
Did your wedding preparations include any DIY projects?
Yes I did all the stationary and menu boards.
How does your wedding reflect your personalities?
We are extremely laid back and therefore we had a lounge style setting. I also had to incorporate the blue to reflect my tomboy side as I was all lady like in my wedding dress.
