You might have picked up that we are having a little crush on yellow at the moment. So when Bond Freyer from BLF Studios in Canada sent over this DIY wedding, we were thrilled! Michael and his bride Megan took the plunge in September last year in Winnipeg, Canada.
This gem of a wedding is filled with darling handmade details. And we’re especially smitten with all the natural elements that they included in the decor lwood and the wheat spikes. It gives this celebration such a feeling of warmth. But what I love the most about this wedding is how Megan describes their relationship. She says: ” we make each other shine just a bit brighter”. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Tell us your love story? How did you meet and fall in love?
Good friends introduced us over 5 years ago, inseparable since. Our first date we watched a 3 hour movie, bad choice, but then we spent hours, in a park, swinging on a set a swings, talking the night away. It felt easy and exciting all at once.
So how did he pop the question?
Michael slipped the ring on my finger while I was asleep, this is very him by the way, I did not find it until morning. His nerves kept him up all night, when my alarm went off for work, I woke up confused as to why I would be wearing a ring on each finger, I soon found out.
What were the highlights of your wedding day?
Every last detail was us, and planned by us. The entire wedding was DIY, and that made it so much more personal.
Any advice for brides-to-be?
Take the year to plan your wedding. Enjoy the day of, you have done all you can do up until this one day, just enjoy it!
Did anything unexpected happen?
Our song would not play on the DJ’s equipment, we did not find that out until we were waiting to be called up for our first dance. Emily, Michael’s sister, luckily had it on her ipod.
What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome while organising your dream wedding?
Planning a new restaurant opening at the same time, I don’t know how I did it.
Any time saving or organising tips?
Delegate, friends and family want to help. If you are independent like me you must just let go and let your loved ones help.
Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?
Making our own invitations was a big cost saver. We downloaded and re designed an invitation and RSVP template, printed them on paper bought at a local craft shop, tied them with twine and mailed them off ourselves.
What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?
James Morrison-Better Man. The words of this song are so true to our relationship.
Were any of your family members or friends involved in the wedding and what were their contributions?
My family helped with everything, the cake, favours, flowers, centrepieces, rustic dessert table, invitations, save the date. What was the “theme” of your wedding, and why? Rustic-chic.
How does your wedding reflect your personalities?
Fun, silly, laid back, love, hopeless romantic.
