Cool Crates {Giveaway}

We just moved into a new place, and I’m still trying to find a space for everything. My old house had a built in wine rack and a lot more cupboard space, so I’m thinking wooden crates would come in handy. I saw these beautiful crates by DecoCrate at this year’s Kamers vol Gesekenke, and they’re a pretty solution to any storage problem!

DecoCrate is a new décor item and storage solution by The Food Fox – a food blogger and lover of all things beautiful. DecoCrates are handmade by brother and sister team Sunley Uys and Ilse van der Merwe, using restored and new pine wood.

The crates are handpainted and stained to become beautiful vintage-inspired storage crates, perfect for storing kitchen items, wine bottles, books, fire wood, kids toys, etc. The crates are stackable and make wonderfully colourful racks – you can even stack your whole wall!

They have recently started to custom-make crates, so you can choose your own labels or names. You’ll find DecoCrate at The Farmer’s Daughter in Stellenbosch – large, medium and small.

The friendly folks from Decocrates are giving away one of their beautiful crates! One lucky reader will win a 30 x 30 x 45 cm DecoCrate (“Full Cream MILK” design) to the value of R450.

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.

    Our latest ritual is going to a market every Saturday [City Bowl, Stellenbosch, Neighbourgoods- any market!] and buying tons of amazing fresh fruit and veggies. I think I would use this crate as the perfect, most stylish way to hold our delicious fresh produce. With all our buys on display, hopefully more people will be inspired to support local farmers and small retailers by buying at markets.

  • Jenn

    I just moved into a house built in the forties – hardwood floors, tongue and groove paneling painted creamy white… so gorgeous. I have a nice chunk of wall in the living room that’s begging for a bookcase made of crates, so this would be a perfect starter!

  • http://www.justinandcori.ourwedding.com Cori

    These crates are super cute and would be amazing to hold our wedding gifts to our guests, ring pops :), and would go especially well with our outdoors rustic chic wedding. My fiance always threatened to propose to me with a ring pop instead of an actual ring so when he actually popped the questions I wasn’t that surprised that he placed a ring pop on my finger. He asked “will this one work?” When the look on my face didn’t give him the yes he wanted, he got down on one knee, pulled out the most beautiful ring ever and said “how about this one?” before asking me to marry him. Such a wonderful memory :)!

    I would use the light blue one for my puppy – who LOVES sleeping in boxes. At the moment he is using a black plastic crate, turned on its side, with his pillow inside. (a box is supposed to make them feel more secure). A light blue one would be so much more attractive, and will hopefully be more calming, to help him sleep through the night . . .

  • http://www.cherilavie.co.za Carla Windt

    WOW!!! LOVE THE CRATES!!! I am a helpless foodie and creative design junkie so these crates are right up my alley! I am in the process of planning my wedding which takes place in March and I’ve been looking for a pretty crate to display the boule set in on the lawn! Please please please can I put some flowers in there as decorations for our Afrikaans-meets- English-urban chich wedding?? O and the “oudtydse soetkoekies” – bar in memory of my granddad will look so great stacked on and in those crates!

  • http://Website Lizl

    Wow! It will be perfect for my bathroom as decoration and storage! I will keep my towels neatly rolled up in them.

  • Doné Groenewald

    Absolutely stunning! Thank you for making a crate up for grabs! I like using items that look as if they are out of place – for example I have a huge sundial plant (roots in a bucket of water) standing in a wine harvesting basket, in my lounge. So I would probably stand mine on my huge coffee table, with an aloe of sorts in it, out of the norm yet so stunning.
