Trousseau linen {love}

A few weeks ago I visited my friend Michelle in Plettenberg Bay. On our weekend visit to meet Michelle and Cornel’s new born baby Tehilla, we also visited her family that lives in Plettenberg Bay. Michelle’s mom, René, has always been an inspiration to me! Their farm house is a classic example of a french inspired gem!

René has a very special love for linen and recently launched her new product range Trousseau. The word Trousseau (tr’oo so or troo so’) comes from the French ‘trousse’, meaning a small bundle, or a woman’s possessions such as clothing, lingerie and linens that accompany her into marriage; the chattel of a bride.

I had the privilege to do a shoot of René’s linen collection in their gorgeous garden. She graciously offered to do a give away of two of her gorgeous products on The Pretty Blog.

trousseau linnen christine meintjes 001 Trousseau linen {love}

The two products up for grabs are one French linen backed mohair throw and one Mohair duvet inner.

René explains more about her products and how to treat linen:

The noble wife from Proverbs “makes coverings for her bed, she is clothed in fine linen” and so it is today. The marriage of fine French linen and mohair truly is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world and was sometimes used as currency-valuable indeed. When washing your linen resist the temptation to bundle it in your drier. Rather plant up a hedge of rosemary or lavender close to your washing line and with the easy abandon of the French, throw your beautiful linens in the sun. The smell will be with you as you slip between your sheets. I do not iron my linen, as I love the slightly wrinkled look and consider it part of the charm. The mohair blanket which I use (woven by my husband) as a beautiful backing to my throw, is a natural fibre and because of its incredible lustre, ability to almost being non-flammable and the most durable of all animal fibers, the finished product will become an heirloom. Enjoy it, treasure it, and then pass it on to your children!

Mohair duvet inner: A new take on the mohair blanket is the duvet inner. With all the qualities you have experienced from your treasured blanket, the mohair duvet inner has arrived! Featherlight and warm it will have you longing for your bed and all the nostalgia that comes from a product you’ve known and loved forever.

Available in Single, Double, Queen or King. (you can contact Rene via her website for more info)

I’m a dreamer, designer, photographer, wife, friend and blogger. I love pretty things, white is my favourite colour and natural light makes me happy. I’m totally in love with South Africa and I’m proud to call it my home! I can never say no to ice-cream and I can’t go anywhere without taking a photo :)

On a more serious note, I’m an international wedding photographer, with a modern, relaxed, editorial style. I’ve been very fortunate to not only photograph weddings in the beautiful South Africa, but also photograph couples in Germany, the UK, Spain, Angola, Sweden, Mozambique and Dubai. I’m also an official Nikon Ambassador for South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa.

    I am privileged enough to have one of those mothers (gems) that taught me the meaning and importance of trousseau when I was only a little girl… She gave me a cupboard in our house as my very own “trousseau box” and ever since I can remember, I have been collecting little bits and pieces of trousseau for my “one day”. Well my “one day” is arriving in 93 “slapies” and then my lovely (by then) husband and I will move into our little nest! How exciting! When I saw your photos of the lovely linen, I immediately knew that it would just be lovely to cuddle up under the French linen backed mohair throw. It is just too lovely for words! When we decided on a theme for our wedding day (which we call our sprokiesdag) we immediately decided on a natural organic and light theme as this describes us the best! This beautiful throw will also enhance the natural feeling in our little house! I would just love to surprise my beautiful fiancé with this French linen backed mohair throw!

    Appears everyone’s going for the mohair throw. I’m going to be differenr – I LOVE the white linen sheet with detailed outline :):) Also getting married early next year so would be a real blessing :):)

  • http://www.blackblossom.co.za Anja

    During my stay in the French countryside last year at La Creuzette, I fell head over heels in Love with antique french linen. There are no comparisons to the look and feel of linen and the effect it has on a room and the value it attaches to the room as a place of rest, escape, dream and beauty. I knew I was going to be asked to get married when I go home so I wanted to buy some of the linen sheets for my trousseau and a brocante, but unfortunately it was too heavy for my bag as I was already over weight. The one thing my heart still desires is a linen set for the whole bed to take me back to a time I will never forget…

  • http://www.rvbd.co.za Raeesah

    I’m going to be practical and say the mohair duvet inner since I’m in the market for a new inner. I won’t be able to see it, but sure will be able to appreciate what I feel threw the covers :-)

    my feesdag kom uiteindelik oor 93 daggies!

  • http://Website... Marlize

  • http://Website... Alice

    Wowee what about both? Heehee, would probably love a Mohair Duvet Inner… something magical about curling up underneath something natural… brings back memories of a previous lifetime where everything was simple, natural and handmade with love and care >;o)

    Since I was a little girl, I could never decide between going for pretty or good quality. So I decided quite early to always go for a combination of both. That’s why I love the Trousseau French linen backed mohair throw – good combination of style and quality. I just love the feeling of crisp linen against my skin and it would just go perfect with my French style decorated room (I complete the look with a blue and yellow quilt my mom made me for Christmas). To me a mohair blanked is something that gets passed on from generation to generation and I would just love to have one to pass on to my girl one day. But since I’m allergic to dawn duvets, a mohair inner would also be divine for that winter warmth.

    I just LOVE the French linen backed mohair throw – would really give my two front teeth to own that :)

    There is simply nothing more indulgent than sleeping in fine high quality, beautiful, luxurious bedding and linen – least of all French inspired, natural and PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN!!! I would love to give my future daughter-in-law the privilege of owning one of these Trousseau “experiences”, especially because she is an American with a heart for Africa :-)

    This gorgeous linen is right up my alley. Our wild country garden is filled with lavender and I feel instantly happy at the thought of our bed made up in crisp fresh, linen scented with the herb. I am pregnant at the moment and love the idea of having a precious, sumptuous mohair throw that will endure to pass on to my progeny. How divine!!

  • http://Website... Paulette

    Of the two, I would prefer the throw. But what I really lust after, are the bedsheets! A bed with wonderful sheets is such a luxury. Especially since it is mostly just you who know of the indulgence against you skin. Much like beautiful underwear.

    Newly married, we are busy putting together our bedroom, building a sanctuary where we can retreat and just be with each other. This project we took on together and we are creating and learning our own style. We already found and made the most beautiful ‘swarthout’ bedsidetables and matching drawers we also made a mirror from old building material. On our bedsidetables stand our lamps, a wedding present made by my husbands 80 year old grandfather. Next on our list is to find bedding (and curtains) that will match our style, something timeless, natural and strong as our love… i would LOVE the lined backed mohair throw

    Since I was a little girl my Gran told me I would get her Trousseau box that she got when she got engaged. I never knew what it was but she explained its to start collecting your little treasures which you will share with your husband. I have been collecting little treasures since. I would love to have something so elegant and most of all proudly South African. My man is a chef and his heart is in french cuisine, I have tried to bring some french inspired items into our home to balance our passions. I would love to add the Mohair duvet inner to my trousseau. Although my man would probably love the throw. I would be over the moon for any of these treasures.

    I’m very newly engaged and so incredibly happy! My fiance and I plan to start a home as soon as possible, but haven’t really started our trousseau together yet. We love all things French and feel that the beautiful Mohair Duvet Inner would be the perfect first addition to our home.

  • Nicola Bester

    We are getting married in January and there is nothing more important than have a wonderful bedroom when you’re married where you want to spend time and feel comfortable! I am so exciting about decorating our bedroom and hopefully creating something beautiful with what we have…I just think the THROW would ad so much to that and I would be so happy to win it!

    French linen backed mohair throw – no need to say anything else! Lovely!!

  • http://Website Karina van Huyssteen

    Oh wow – just the thought of that Mohair duvet inner makes my toes curl with joy already! I am a real girlie-girl (and proud of it..!) and tend to fall madly in love with all things pretty. Having a late afternoon nap in a ray of mellow Spring-sun, curled up between crisp, white linen is the ultimate happy-place! Oooh and I just got engaged this past Friday, on a beach in Paternoster (=LOVE)… and since my amazing husband-to-be possibly loves sleeping even more than I do (we both have high energy jobs and don’t get much shut-eye during the week), nothing would make me happier than to spoil him with the purrrrfect sleeping accessory! ♥

    That mohair blanket throw sounds like the perfect accessory for cold winter nights in Badplaas when the wind is howling and the power has gone out, as it tends to do. At least I will be warm and snug and can cuddle my son in it with me.
