Ok, admittedly we’re not the biggest sports fans, but we get really excited about large sporting events like the Soccer or Rugby World Cup! To show our support for the Springboks rugby team, currently competing in New Zealand, we asked graphic designer Susan Brand to design a few proudly South African items that one can use for entertaining during the Rugby World Cup. Since you’ll be spending most of your time in front of the television, we opted for these very practical paper cones and coasters. Pretty and practical! The great thing is you can also use them for National Braai Day, which is just around the corner.
A little bit a about Susan: Susan started her Graphic Design business after getting married and moving to the West Coast in March this year. {We featured their beautiful wedding! } Her engineering husband got a really good job in Langebaan, and that made it the obvious choice that she had give up city life for the much quieter, but lovely Langebaan. She started doing Wedding Stationery for lots of weddings on the West Coast, which spread to Joburg, Natal Midlands, etc. Her passion is for design that involves lots and lots of typography and pretty patterns. We hope you Susan’s first DIY contribution! See instructions below.
Instructions for paper cones:
Whats needed: brown paper, scissors, a pen, normal tape, double-sided tape, zig-zag scissors (optional) & your printed out cones.
1 – Cut out your printed cones. Place a piece of double-sided tape down entire length of one short side.
2 – Curl the paper to form a cone.
3 – Gently press the sides together to stick and secure cone.
4 – Trace the cone on brown paper
5 – Make the top curve of the cone bigger than actual cone, to let it stand out above the printed one.
6 – Cut out the brown paper cone
7 – To give it a cute rim, cut the top curve out with the zig-zag scissor.
8 – Roll the brown paper cone and fasten with normal tape.
9 – Insert brown paper cone into the printed cone.
Coasters:
The coasters were printed on PVC. You can do that at a signage shop. This way they will last longer.
