Daniel & Kelly {Spring Elegance}

On Wednesday we will be celebrating spring day.  So to ease you into the new season, we thought we’d share  this  elegant spring wedding with you.  Kim Lamothe from Greenlion Weddings  (in the U.S) sent over this little gem. She was the florist on Daniel & Kelly’s big day, and she did such an amazing job. The flowers arrangements on top of the fireplace just makes me week at the knees.

Daniel & Kelly said their vows in Newport, Rhode Island in April. Can you believe that they had snow just two days before the wedding?! Luckily it the snow melted and the clouds parted, and they had a perfect day. Kelly said she wanted to look back one day and think  “man, that was (and still is) in style”.  Well, I think she might just be able to do that, because their wedding was just the most stylish and elegant affair. A big thank you to Jill from Raw Photo Design the amazing pictures.

Tell us your love story?

Daniel and I were good friends that met in college. Though he’d never admit it, he used to take me out to coffee or tea on school nights and we’d talk for hours. Then, we finally decided to become a couple – and summer came…and I went to Europe as part of a foreign exchange program. I knew he was a keeper when he wrote to me every day.

Please describe the proposal.

Last July, I planned a trip to France to go visit my Daniel. It turns out that I would be showing up in Paris on his birthday. His sisters let me know they sent me a package with a gift for Daniel. It was supposedly their birthday gift for him, and they wanted me to bring it with me. So, I tossed it in my carry on and scurried to Paris. My flight was delayed, and I really almost missed making it there. The next day, we went to a wonderful dinner . When we got back to thehotel, he actually asked me to go back out and see Paris at night…I was exhausted so I told him we should rather stay and open his birthday present from his sisters. I slipped into my pajamas, and emerged from the bathroom where he was white as a ghost. I actually thought he had food poisoning! I ran to his aid, where he pulled out a beautiful cushion cut ring, and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes!. I then realized that his “birthday gift” was actually the ring!

What was the highlight of your wedding day?

I actually was thinking a lot about my grandmother the day of my wedding. Right before I walked down the aisle my Dad and I said a little prayer for her, and he pulled out a mini urn of her from his coat pocket! I can’t tell you if I was shocked or moved, but Ill never forget it! So my Dad, my grandma and I walked down the aisle together.

Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?

Magazines and my florist!

Any time saving or organising tips?

Make yourself a mood board or several mood boards. It’ll help you weed out what you really want.

Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?

I shopped a LOT on etsy.com, and I searched all my favorite stores for bargains. My shoes were $29.99 on sale at DSW because there was a very mini scratch in them. You’d never notice !

What song did you choose for your opening dance?

A cover of “Make you feel my love” by Adele. In another life I want to be the soulful bluesy woman that Adele is!

Were any of your family members or friends involved in the wedding and what were their contributions?

I could not have done it without the help of my parents. They were so wonderful in the planning process, and they really just wanted things to be perfect for us. My mom made our favors and gift bags and my Dad set up our hotel room as the “hospitality room” because most of our guests were out of town. I am still drinking leftover wine and beer he bought for it, and I’m so glad he gave our guests a place to hang out together.

Did your wedding preparations include any DIY projects?

Welcome Bags – These were made by my mom and they consisted of a can of local Beer (Newport Storm), local coffee, local salt water taffy, and custom made cookies in the shape of Rhode Island. We also outlined local running routes and attractions, because my husband and I are avid runners (so are our friends). I designed the table numbers, programs and table cards. My mom made sweet little candles with our monogram on them and “A day at the beach” scent, as party favors.

How does your wedding reflect your personalities?

We wanted our wedding to be simple but elegant. Mainly we relied on the location to describe what kind of couple we are…..The one thing we were very selective about was our photographer. We both love photography, and we didn’t want your run of the mill photos. I also work in the industry, so I wasn’t about to show my colleagues any lousy photos of the best day of my life!

What are you looking forward to now that you are married?

?We are just enjoying our time together. We both travel a lot so it finally feels good to be around each other all the time

Please describe what the weather was like on your big day.

I was very nervous about the weather for our wedding day. Being in Rhode Island in April, you really could get any type of weather. Two days before the wedding it was SNOWING and hailing, but on the day of our wedding, the snow melted, the clouds parted and it was 57 degrees and sunny. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

I love anything to do with food {especially eating}, collecting pretty things, nesting, afternoon naps, reading and pinning. I am terrible at any kind of needle work, and I secretly envy those who can knit, sew and crochet. Freshly picked jasmin makes me happy. If I could choose my last meal on earth it, would be warm ciabatta bread with lashings of butter.

Well, Congratulations on this very heart warming occasion! You did a great choice in your opening dance. Adele is really a powerful singer! Before I forget, I would like to commend the photos, they are so nice. What I love the most is the photo where, I suppose, the groomsmen clasped their hands together. That was an awesome shot. The last photo were they were both seating and there were candles behind them is perfectly nice. It’s balanced! Again, best wishes.
