We’ve come to the end of another pretty filled week and we are ending on a high note. Today we share the wedding of Gerrit and Carlien Mostert. They celebrated their big day at the historic farm, Langverwagt. We just love this venue, it’s got a lot of character.
Carlien and Gerrit’s wedding was filled to the brim with little details, and we are totally gaga over the rich reception decor. The coloured glasses and the textured table cloths give such an opulent feel. A big thank you to Wil Punt from Peartree Photography for sending this wedding my way.
Tell us your love story…
We met at university, I (Carlien) accidentally broke his computer and he asked me to go see a movie with him, we saw Star Wars… What a cliché, I know!
Please describe the proposal. Did you suspect anything before he popped the question?
We went together to pick out the ring so yes, I was aware that it was coming sometime in the future. When I came home from school he had bought my favourite flowers and asked me down on one knee, that night he took me to Pigalle in Cape Town, my favourite restaurant. We celebrated in style.
What was the highlight of your wedding day?
The whole day was fantastic. I never stressed for a second because I knew everything would be perfect. However, the highlight for me was the ceremony. I loved the traditional aspects and modern twists and the fact that we got to say “I do”.
Any advice for brides-to-be?
Make sure your guests have enough to eat and drink – and that goes for the bride and groom too. You spend months or even years planning the perfect meal, drinks and dessert. Make sure that you sit down and eat, taste your food and enjoy the moment – so that all the effort has paid off.
Where did you get most of your ideas and inspiration from?
Bridal magazines and ideas from my wedding planner and mother
Any time saving or organising tips?
Hire a wedding planner!
Any hints for other brides on how to keep your wedding budget friendly?
Write out table names by hand, tear old newspapers for paper or placemats (if it is theme appropriate)
What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?
All for love – Bryan Adams, Sting, Rod Stewart
Were any of your family members or friends involved in the wedding and what were their contributions?
Mother – worked really hard, realized most of the ideas
Friend (Mari) – organized the photo corner
What was the “theme” of your wedding, and why?
Vintage – I love the colours and feel of a vintage wedding
How does your wedding reflect your personalities?
The decor was planned town to a T, and looked spectacular but the general atmosphere of the wedding was relaxed and we wanted the people to have an unforgettable time. The last guests only left at 03:00 so I’m guessing they had a good time.
Please describe your wedding dress.
I had my dress custom made by Paul van Zyl in Cape Town. I didn’t want a white dress so we decided on oyster silk with lace covering the whole dress. It is a very rich lace with bead work, which had a nice effect when I walked and the beads caught the light.
